You can now pay your subscription to the Society for the Study of Nineteenth Century Ireland using PayPal.

What is PayPal?
PayPal is a tried and tested facility to make payments over the Internet. Once your account has been set up with PayPal, actual payment is made with one click of your mouse.

Is PayPal safe?
PayPay has been used for a number of years and is now accepted as a secure method of paying for products or services over the Internet.

How does it work?
First you will need to set up a PayPal account. Go to www.paypal.ie or to the PayPal Web site in your country.
(PayPal operates in over 190 countries worldwide).

Once there, follow the instructions to set up a new account.

You will need to input details of one or more credit cards to be used for payment.

You can also arrange for your bank account to be used for payment. This is slightly more complex due to the need to prevent fraud and prove that you are the real owner of the account, so you will probably want to use the credit card route at least initially.

Once your PayPal account is set up, the rest is easy:

1. Click on the paypal button for the membership role that you want to join up for. You will then be brought to the paypal site in order to make you payment.

2. The funds will be withdrawn from your credit card account (or bank account) and transferred to the PayPal account of SSNCI.

3. You will receive an email receipt showing that payment has been made. It will tell you how that payment will appear in your credit card statement.

4. The Treasurer of the SSNCI receives an email saying that we have received your payment.

Please note that no other acknowledgement from the Society will be sent – your PayPal receipt is your proof of purchase.

Why is the Society promoting this method of payment?
One of the main reasons for this, is that it makes membership fee payment easy for our various members through the world. Also many people these days don't even have a cheque book

Why should I use PayPal to pay my subscription?

• It's easy and fast – just a few clicks and it’s done. Payments are immediate. It’s quicker than sending cheques or postal orders.
• It's safe and private - PayPal does not reveal your financial information to sellers.
• Fraud prevention keeps your money safe.
• It's cost-effective – there is no cost to you to send money.
• It’s easy to keep your subscriptions up-to-date, so the Society stays solvent.
• You don’t have to remember to update your standing orders.
• It’s convenient for many other internet purchases that you may make. Most internet sites allow you to pay using PayPal.

Please note that you can also pay by credit card on the Paypal site -- even if you don't have a Paypal account!!

Can I still pay my subscription by cheque?
